Perry French Cuirassiers: Cartridge Case??

The Perry French cuirassiers/carabiniers has a cartridge box on top of the saddle. I left these on for dragoons. I know I'd leave them on for the carabiniers. But do they remain if I paint the unit up as cuirassiers? The illustrations with the set shows the black case on the back of the cuirassiers. But would it really be there?

Or would it be a case of having a snazzy little case to keep whatever in??

It might be correct . Cuirassiers were equiped with a "mousqueton" to be able to deal with small bodies of infantry in villages or defiles ( + sword and 2 pistols ) ( source Sword around a Throne )

So they had to have some ammunition, from a friend who was a reenactor between 10 or 20 prepared shots in a wooden and leather case
