Russian jagers in 1812

Why does the Russian list for 1812 limit the Russians to 12 bases of jagers compared to 56 bases of line infantry?
I hope that this will be amended for the actual lists. We have the sources for the Russian army in 1812 and out of 25 divisions containing jager/line, 22 have 2 regts of jager to 4 regts of line. One division has 3 line to 1 jager, one has 4 line to 1 jager and the last has 1 line and 3 marine regts. As army lists should reflect the standard organisation. i think that this means that the list needs to allow for more jager bases, even if the jager regts were weaker than the line. ian

Hi Ian,
You are correct of course regarding the ratio jagers-musketeers, I have myself 24 line and 12 jager.
However not sure if you will field much more than 16 bases of jagers (and 32 musketeers) with the complusory artillery and cavalry for 800 points; so I guess it is more academic.
I presume when you want more corps, you multiply all the numbers of corresponding bases.
Incidentally, how did you calculate the 56 line bases, I count only 48 (60-12 grenadiers),
Cheers,
Martin, a fellow Russian general

Clearly they wanted to limit the number of light infantry feeling they were too powerful.
You could alter and post hoc justify saying the other yegers weren't skirmishing aggressively that day.
Not a great answer but the overall limit is clearly what they did.

Are the lists intended for 800AP games only? If yes then you do need more jager.
I assumed (without reading the book) that the lists would allow higher AP games( with a more limited choice) as they do for FOGAM or FOGR.
I think still that a list should try for a more historical ratio of Jager to line. If you do not want sneaky wargamers taking too many jagers, then set up limits in the list notes. You could say that there must be both more Ln bases and units than jager bases and units

The "usual" make-up of a Russian infantry Division was for 2 brigades of Line infantry and 1 of Jaeger, with each brigade comprising four battalions in two regiments.
Yes, I do know that there were exceptions to this (hence "usual").
So, a ratio of 1 Jaeger unit to 2 Line units would be acceptable for non-historical lists.
