Bug: unmovable railroad gun

Sorry if it was before, didn't find any similar topic.

Not a software issue, simple hole in upgrade:

1. Take any not-railway artillery unit
2. Move it to your town
3. Upgrade to railroad gun (e.g. 280mm K5)
4. If the town has railroad, everything will be OK
5. If the town has no railroad, unit will be upgraded to railroad gun anyway.
6. And it will stick forever as there's no railway and it can't move out :)

It seems to me that upgrade to railroad unit in the town with no railroad must be blocked.

Whatever else - great game, can't wait for 1944 campaign!

Welcome to the forum, Zampolit. Anything with movement type of railroad should be blocked on a hex without the railroad terrain feature.Good pick-up.

I'm wondering why rail arty is purchasable at all...IMO it shouldn't be.

(just my 2 cents)

Why take choice away? If someone likes using railroad guns, we let them purchase them to their heart's content. If you don't, or find them unhistorical, then no one is forcing their use upon you. :)

I bought a 580mm railway gun in a recent game of Steamroller. They're not that good and restricted to the railroads. Better off buying a 15cm IMO. Think of the prestige outlay as an impassioned plea to the OKH who send a rail gun down the tracks to you!

It was just my idea to make them no-purchase units, because they were not the "usual" stuff...But, yeah, if the people demand railguns... :mrgreen:

was itching to try the 280mm K5 just because it became available :D at Narva deploy I was deciding what arty to use with my infantry attack on what I knew would be enemy units covering the forest road to Narva. looked toooooo easy! that's when I noticed there was just one short rail line running thru Vaivara to Narva. ahhh I said. checked the stats and the rail [edit] gun had (4) range. I could use the heck out of this baby :D

not only did it help my infantry punch a hole in the Soviet ownership of the road to Narva, I used it to support my center's defense of keeping back the enemy pushing thru that forest leading to my surviving auxillary troops. my center was situated to form a defensive line from Vaivara to the important airfield objective of 6,19. kept the enemy in a wedge while I fought out the turns.

after the battle I wished I had upgraded (2) of my StuH 42's to the 280mm K5's. was a treat to watch the results of the (4) range gun 8)
