Has anybody tried playing with an Ottoman army? I am very attracted to their exotic nature, colourfull cavalry etc, but wouldnt want to invest in an army that was completely useless. I havent played the game yet so have no experience on which to draw. Any input is appreciated.

Regards

Matthew

I think it looks interesting but I'm not sure all that irreg LC is going to be a winner.

There is also some rules/errata uncertainty about who exactly impetuos Irreg LC will have to charge and what formation Irreg LC in general will have to be in to evade. The eventual answers to these questions will have a big impact on how good the list is.

There are also a couple of minor niggles in the list. It allows 6 poor medium guns but the overall maximum for that type of artillery is 5. It requires a minimum of 8 sipahi elements but as they can only be taken in units of 6 the minimum is ie 12.

Thanks for this Martin. Sounds like this is probably not a good starter army for a beginner. I will looke for something more conventional to start with.

I tried them once in a playtest game - Andrew absolutely anihilated them with his Neapolitan conscript horde.
They were fun though, and Andy is actually planning to buy and paint an Ottoman army next.

I think Ottomans might be a bit like French Guard. Hard to master the use of, and relatively easy for an opponent to beat once he has played them a few times. However will surprise people at tournaments and get a few wins against the unprepared.

Cheers
