Are Infantry at close range a 5 to hit if they are not charging the shooters ? Bit confused by the asterisk in the shooting chart.

Do Light Infantry NOT in skirmish formation roll 2 dice less for having Cavalry within 6 MU ?

p 53 "infantry in any formation" hits on a 4

The asterisk only applies to "assaulting" units.

2.
p 49 chart for medium range.
"enemy cavalry in 6 MU"
continues on p 50. The reference is not to skirmish formation. But that medium range fire is largely skirmishers deployed forward.

I checked the 2nd one, the point is Light Infantry not skirmishers, something the 1813 Prussians neatly avoided for some reason according to the lists.

As for not believing you, well you do the job you do and.... besides wouldn't be the first or last time we were not 100% sure of a rule when trying out these new sets would it ?

I think there may be a confusion with regards to references to page 50.

Under "Effects of Enemy Cavalry" first paragraph "Cavalry within 6MU affects infantry in the following circumstances...."

The bullets that follow all refer to infantry (no distiction between types) and the last sentence concludes that cavalry have no affect on artillery (including attachments).

I'm sure therefore that the -2 dice at medium range is suffered by all infantry of any type, except riflemen who get -1 dice, Prussians included.

In my view, the reference to skirmishers in the first sentence of the section is mearly to explain why infantry units with medium range shooting from skirmishers (either because they are reformed, light infantry or have skimisher attachments) are affected and why artillery and infantry with medium range shooting from artillery attachments only, are not.

They are a 4 to hit as normal, however:
> The must be directly to the front AND within 2MU of the firers at any point during the charge.
> They must not have started their charge more than 1 base width from the front of the firers.

At medium range ALL infantry lose the 2 dice. (1 if riflement).
