As I've suggested on the TA boards, IRC might be a bit easier in matchmaking, as it allows direct chat.
If anyone is interested, I'm willing to open up a channel.

This is an amazing idea. We should ask Slitherine to have IRC matchmaking channels for all their multiplayer games (but especially TA of course) up at all times
