1805-07 general question

Not looking for specific answers, but curious about general modelling of the ratings and army for the coalition forces in 1805-07 time range.

I presume mostly or entirely unreformed.

A fair number like Prussian '06 would be drilled if not veteran I should think.

I can see a variety of options, I am wondering how you would model the command control aspects?
Just lower commander ratings, or require a high number of BGs in a division or generally what kind of things?

I ask as I set up a game with a division with too many units in it and it really suffered from its inabilty to rally back simply disorders, much less perform enough CMTs. Could really model well the good troops, slow manuver, bulky and unagile commmand structure.

We have just been finalising the second book of lists so this is a general approach response. Yes the major nations in 05-07 have their infantry treated as unreformed, that is Prussia. Austria and Russia. And yes we use low commander rating options and low initiative to reflect their command weaknesses. Troops themselves not poor as you say. A notable exception is the Archduke Charles' army in Italy in 1805 where an exceptional Corps commander is permitted and which a has better initiative rating.

Terry and I are hoping to try a big 1805 allied Austro Russian versus French game over easter so it will be interesteing to see how that plays out.It willbe a scenario not a standard game.

We have looked at raising the minimum number of units per division but that would be a double penalty really with poorer commanders as well.

We have done that for the French for infantry in the early to mid 90's to reflect " sticky" command control in a huge newly raised army of volunteers, levee en masse, threat of the gullotine on generals etc - but it's less of a double bind as their generals' quality options and intitiative levels are rather better. Troop quality much more variable of course with cavalry particularly ropey until much later in the 90's.
