A message to slow players . . .

If you pick up my open challenges, make a couple of moves then do nothing for a week or so, I shall resign immediately out of the game at the first opportunity.

At the moment, I have had one chap accept all four of the challenges I put on a fortnight ago but then, after making four or five moves, I have had nothing from him for ten days until yesterday when he made a move in two of the games. No explanation, no nothing, not even a "hello" at the start of the game. I have resigned these two games now and if moves are made in the other two games I shall be resigning them as well.

To Slitherine, please reduce the time limit that we can "claim" matches in from 30 days to 14 days so that we don't have our slots clogged up with games against players with poor, or no manners.

I agree also, nothing worse than someone taking up a challange and then nothing happens for a week.If you cant play for awhile leave a message and say so.Then you get the players who disapear for 2 weeks and then tell you" sorry ive been on holidays".

Cheers Turk

I think it's generally a problem that it is not clear what the expected etiquette is.

A reasonable feature would be for games to allow the challenger to set a "chess-clock" style timeout wherever they want. So when a game starts, you have an expectation about whether you'll be playing (a minimum of...) a move a day, a move every 3 days, whatever.

I play Go on the internet and there is a function whereby you may leave a message alongside your challenge - e.g., "fast players please" - "slow game" - "at least 1 turn/day" - "newbie alert" - "For league x" - "historical matchup pls" etc. ... I believe such a function is on its way?

Until such info is supplied, I don't think we can judge too harshly - not everyone is a regular or plays tournaments etc. - some people like to play games over several weeks: that's valid and we need to make space for all kinds of players in the community - though accepting a pile of games at once and then playing slowly seems somewhat inconsiderate.
