Mostly surprised by just how different the rules are from the other FoGs. I powered through the book this afternoon, I like some of the changes, curious to see them in action. Namely the automatic cohesion losses, that is very new. I kinda like it though, as nothing is more frustrating than doing everything right in a game only to watch your opponent throw 10+ cohesion rolls like a champion. Also the differences in command and control are interesting. Anyone had a chance to try out the new rules yet? I'm curious about overall impressions after a play through since I won't get a chance to test them out for at least a couple weeks.

One tip is remember that firing is NOT concurrent, the active player shoots first & can force the defending player out of range, or cause them not to be able to fire back effectively.

I would go along with that played once against an opponent yesterday and still not managed to figure out the combat, got the fighting okey just what happens with the CT?

Still plod on hoping it is as good as it looks.

Best way to start with the rules is to ignore the name FoG, as it is a complete new start.

Stick with it, it is worth it.

It is a total different time period.. So the need to change up the rules.. I have skimmed the rules. My figs I was going to use to playtest these went back to there owner in Texas:/ I am in the middle of buying a house.. Blah.. So much for buying new figs for awhile.

I am so pleased you think so and enjoy getting them out again- thanks. When I was first asked to work on FOG(N) I knew next to nothing about FOG(A) which had only just come out and we were pretty clear we must not start there. Ok some common top down things like the standard size and length of game designed for and where a process or mechanism is similar using a similar " label" can help.

But as someone who has gamed 90% Napleonic for the last 15 years with 28mm figures I was clear it had to be quite different and what was more had to work for 1792-1802, which I think has been sadly underexplored by us gamers for want of rules and lists.

Except for a brief foray into ACW with Airfix figures, my first substantial (i.e., with expensive lead figures) experience with miniature wargaming was 40 years ago with "Napoleonique" which was great fun. Since then I've been through all kinds of rules, which were excellent, but never as much fun as that first set. I haven't done a game yet but my sense from reading the rules is that I can once again look forward to a lot of fun. Well done, guys.

I don't fault being different from FOG AM. It really needed to be for a variety of reasons.

I don't fault calling it FOG as that is branding and a business decision.

My first clubgame was a Napoleonic 20/25mm mostly airfix in Bath in 1971 using WRG rules ( not a terribly good set). First love is the deepest....

my Napoleonic armies are all 20mm soft plastic and they were based and organized for the old WRG rules. they have not seen the light of day for 15 or 20 years now. My first foray into historical gaming was with ancient Greeks and the old WRG 6th edition, thanks to Blathergut
