A Legion Arena clone?

I was thrilled to see another Rome related game (sadly not Legion II) but after having a closer look I'm begining to suspect this game is just a repacked Legion Arena. Is this right? if not, what are the similiarities/differences between the two?

Ok, seems the answer to my question is posted in the sticky thread (sorry about that). But since I've already started this thread another question:
Are there any plans of making Cult of Mithras material use the new GBoR features?

The Cult of Mithras is included in the PSP version but not PC or PS2.
The main drive are the PS2 and PSP versions, which have a totally new UI system designed specially for the console systems to allow you to control big 3D batles without a mouse. There is nothing like this out there right now so its very exciting. The PC version is really Legion Arena with extra bells and whistles. There are new features like scouts & ambushes, a completely new look and streamlined user interface and all the great History Channel content, new music tracks - all in all a really immersive experience. However the basic game underneath will be very familiar if you have played LA. The idea is really to reach out to new customers with this rather than resell to people who already have LA. Having said that I think it's worth it for the movies alone - they are so cool! LA was never properly released in North America and this is the main reason we have a PC version.

And I assume there are no chances it will work with PC version of GBoR?

Oh no, I thought that this was included in the PS2 version as well

Why is it only on the PSP? It sounds as if the PSP is the best version of the game, with more features which is very disappointing.

i also would have liked Cult of Mithras material to have been in this as well but i guess you can't have everything, maybe (hopefuly) in a patch or update as i guess nothing is to impossible?
are any mods being planned for the game?
are extra single player missions?
thanks...

PC version
I am about half way through the hard level now having wizzed through normal and so far it is rather dissapointingly similar to Legion Arena. Having said that it is still an interesting and addictive game so I am ok about re-visiting it again in its re-packaged form.

GBR isn't even a Legion Arena clone, it is Legion Arena with some minor adapations. The same flaws haven't been fixed and I paid $40 just to play a game I played before. (Beat GBR the second time thru only the very hard level). Now what? The general is stupid, the skimmishers don't skirmish, there are no new units, you would think that the more elite units might acually come with atleast junior NCOs, the small maps aren't much fun to play, it is too easy to use the boundries of the map for defensive purposes, the units are dumber than dirt, and on and on. A big disappointment that puts a real damper on my desire to purchase any other slitherine products.

Sorry it is not what you ewre expecting, but we did try to spell out what you would get
It is Legion Arena with some new features, as you can see in the post further up this thread and in other threads on the forum. We certainly didn't set out to con anyone. The History Channel license was a huge opportunity for us to get the game out to a new audience and the intention was not to resell to people who already have Legion Arena.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!
Come on, be fair, Slitherine said right up front exactly what GBOR was and was not. They admitted it was largely a re-do of LA, with a few new features.
And I have to say your criticisms of Legion Arena are rather harsh and unjustified.
"The general is stupid" Uhh, well, you are the one controlling him, soooooo.....what is it he is doing or not doing that you object to?
Are you sure you are making allowances for the actual command and control issues of the day?

When you go to the game details (for pc from slitherine's homepage) there is no mention of GBR being a LA clone, and according to that info. there are "more than 100 of the most significant battles of the Roman Empire". Where are they? my version only came with the original LA campaigns, 68 total if i remember correctly. and yes, the player is the one who controls the units (the new game contol colors really suck also), but you would expect the game's AI to be compent enought to recognize simple stuff, like not charging the general into the opponents elite heavy unit without back up and I am not going to get into the other dumb stuff that significantly impedes game play and i doubt is even realistic. maybe somewhere in these posts it does clearly say that GBR is a LA clone, i didn't see it and was relying on info from the game details to guide my choice. no more posts for me and no more slitherine.

Yes, the skirmishers in LA has been bothering me too, actually should the real skirmish option be added (plus maybe a falanx for the units that should have it) it would increase the value of the game tremendously. I don't know if such additions are fit for a patch though, definetly something to consider in the next game.
