Persians, Hillmen and the axe

As some of you might know now, one of my "favorite historical beef" with FoG is that Persian, Zagros Hillmen and other Iranian MF are listed as short spears only.

Now, what is puzzling, the very same hillmen in the Parthian list are "light spears, swordsmen".

From all i know, Persian infantry as well as the people's of central and norther Iran all used short one handed axes. Even Herodotus mentiones the axe as a typical oriental weapon.

So what gives? Why are the "post 166 seleucid list" hillmen rated as just "light spears", while contemporary "parthian list" hillmen are "light spears, swordsmen"?

When I have these sort of queries about medieval armies I am sometimes directed to the "Player Designed Lists" section of the TableTop forum for FOG. I recently did this about the Medieval Welsh army and a useful discussion resulted.

Thanks. Opened a thread there, let's see where it goes.

Well the discussion is on, I a planning to make some more "Persian-themed" scenarios. But the next one will not be the Greek-Persian wars for a change.
