Not in the campaigns for obvious reasons but in the Historical Scenarios, why not to use the real units that took part in the battle?
For example in the Alamein use the 15th and 21st Panzer Divisions. How many units?, well it depends on what a single unit represents.

You can name/re-name the units yourself to reflect historical units by using alt n
