Do you know about it?
Are any of you planning on coming down to prove to my countrymen that people actually play FoG?

Sort of know about the event (communication has been minimal). My understanding is that FoG AM isn't played in RSA. A number of southern hemisphere FoG players are spending this year's travel dollars attending The Worlds at Britcon in August. Promises to be a large field and the best FoG AM players in the World against whom we can try our luck.

From the entry form it appears FoG wasn't even being offered.

And entries closed on March 15th anyway.

Oh well....

Well Colin has banned FoG in South Africa so not surprising.

I'm sure Colin would like a lot of non South African players to go. But I'm yet to hear of one that is. Which is a shame given the great times to be had in Durban and the effort it takes to put on such an event. But I guess it's a case of late decisions and little publicity, and several countries dropping out of the IWF. Though I see from the facebook page talk of Ukraine, Poland and Russia.

I'm reminded of the "Derby World team Championships" in the UK. It was the case some years ago that several teams from the continent of Europe made the trek to Derby. However, it then went through a spell when there were none. I think in the case of Italy they weren't impressed with the (non Swiss Chess) draw system, that had two Italian teams play each other in the last round, despit e the fact they were out of contention and others were happy for the draw to be changed.

I spoke to Colin and he said that FOG had been offered. When I pointed out that it was not on the entry forms he said that this was an error. Bearing in mind the usual rigour of the South African organisation this is indeed disappointing

Looks like Colin has just updated the entry form to include FoG... but he only did so AFTER the event had taken place!!

And it looks from the results he's posted that only DBM was played anyway, as there were no FoW or DBR "champions" announced after the event either.

The guy's clearly lost the plot entirely... the rest of the wargaming World(s) is probably better off without him !

It is indeed a very sad situation.

Colin violated the IWF board's vote to hold the event elsewhere. He unilaterally decided to have this event in his back yard.

Very sad that an organization that was going places has been pulled into the puddle by one of its founders own myopic vision.

Oh well. No use crying over spilt milk.
