Connection/Server error

I recently tried to log in to multiplayer, just as I did many times before without any problems, but today I encountered this:
Code: Select all
Categorised as: Network connection error (Code -1)
State: Log In
Response Type: Page Received
HTTP Status: 404
Time: 2012-03-07 12:09:45
Content: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">?<html><head>?<title>404 Not Found</title>?</head><body>?<h1>Not Found</h1>?<p>The requested URL /PBEM/auth.php was not found on this server.</p>?<p>Additionally, a 404 Not Found?error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.</p>?<hr>?<address>Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at www.slitherine.com Port 80</address>?</body></html>?
What is it? Is the slitherine MP server down?

I also tried to log in this morning and received error on my password (after 1.72 patch of course. It has been working fine and doesn't give me the option of getting a new password. I have ALSO lost a whole page of posts (at least 1 as of the time I went to bed last night) from the forum...any clues.

From the Slitherine news page:
[07 Mar 2012] MARS ATTACKS! ON THE SLITHERINE SITE
It's been a night of fighting at Slitherine's servers house, but we came out victorious. After a few hours of panic and troubles, which affected all of Slitherine's ring of sites, all databases are now restored and we are up an running again.
Unfortunately some of the data got lost, as the attack came just before the daily back ups started, so all is reverted to the previous day's back up. All multiplayer and forum posts after midnight of the 5th are unfortunately lost and will need to be replayed or re-posted.
As of now the PBEM system is still offline as we are synching back the over 15GB of data of all players games, so it will take another two or three hours before we can get it back live again.
We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused and we understand how frustrating it can be to lose your progress in the games, but we did our best to get everything back to normal as swiftly as possible. And thanks to anybody that worked late (very late) to help us in the fight!

HI guys
we had the data restored quite quickly but for PBEM we had to synchronise the data with teh saved games With 14 GB of saved games it took until just now to resynch. PBEM is now back online though any turns played yesterday are unfortunately lost and you'll revert to the situation on the evening of March 5th.

From the state of the forums, it looks like we might have another Groundhog Day...

Thanks i just wanted to know one way or the other. Certainly a pity as its been pretty reliable so far one takes it for granted these sort of things never happen. Well best of luck dealing with it and look forward to it back to normal.

Yeah there was another down period. I'm not relaly complaining, since other than the last 2 days the game and MP was stable ever since I bought it. I just hope this won't become a customary thing though.

What's the story as of Sunday morning?
- is it now all systems go as I have a game to play that is quite detailed
- and I don't want to have to do it all over again
- as has already happened once!
Thanks in advance
