German reach 5 VPs in Sealion On the beach - game continues

Playing a pair of SeaLion On the Beach games against arminius, I've reached 5 VPs as the Germans and the game did not end. From the victory description I was under the impression that it was "reach 5" not "reach and hold 5". This obviously would change my approach to the game (play a little more cautiously rather than rush to VPs). This also gives the allies several turns to reach their victory condition. What happens if both are met?
