Mines again

Has anbody implemented mines yet and got them to work using negative attack values, like discussed in Puma's unit thread? I tried both naval and AT mines, all movement and sight 0, but relatively high negative naval or hard attack stats.
But they never do any casualties to units running into them, and there's also never an "ambush" message, so I'm wondering if those bracketed stats work for anything else than air attack...
