Gendarmes, Cavalier, Warrior IF in pursuit

This is one of the areas where I haven't focused not running them much.
I had always heard they will keep pursuing (unless CMT) to the board edge. But...that seems incorrect,
p 140 suggests they also halt when routers are removed from the table.
I see in that on page 142 even autobroken troops stay on the board if there is someone in contact.
1. But once a BG goes to zero the Gend, Cavl, War IF will stop purusing correct?
2. So also if the autobroken troops separate on a VMD then they are removed, then their is not manadatory pursuit?

That is my undestanding. If the routers are gone from the table, the pursuit stops and the pursuers return to your control. If they are still on the table, you keep running after them unless you pass the CMT

The relevant pages tolook at are 142 discussing removing destroyed battle groups...
"At the end of the joint action phase, battle groups are destroyed and removed from the table if either of the following applies:
Second bullet "They are reduced to one base."
and 152 in discussing auto break.
"They are destroyed and removed from the table at the end of the joint action phase if all pursuers have ceased pursuit OR THEY ARE REDUCED TO ONE BASE."
"BATTLE GROUPS WITH ONLY ONE BASE LEFT ARE ALWAYS DESTROYED AND REMOVED FROM THE TABLE AT THE END OF THE JOINT ACTION PHASE, EVEN IF NOT AUTOBROKEN."
This seems pretty clear to me that Paul's undead zombie bases (he claimed that the one base will always remain on the table to make impact warriors and gendarms always chase) are Fantasy.

Now here is an interesting situation that came up. A unit was warrior IF broke a unit of commanded shot. They were locked in melee with another unit of commanded shot. The broken unit fled only 2 inches from combat, then in the joint action went a further 3 inches. In the following melee round the warriors broke the other commanded shot and caught them reducing them to one base and thus removing them. The question is ... Do the warrior IF now have to pursue the commanded shot they broke in the previous round of combat? I don't think it would make a difference if they broke them 3 turns ago but the commanded shot was still on the table.

The only pursue the troops they just broke, if 2 enemy are fighting one and one of the two breaks and then a turn later the second breaks, the pursuers will pursue until the second unit is removed, the first routing unit is irrelevant.

I don't believe so Dan.
Gendarmes etc must continue to pursue auto broken troops - even after they've lost contact. See page 140, right hand column, first bullet.
And auto broken troops are not removed until pursuers have ceased pursuit - page 142, right hand column, first bullet.
But if a BG is reduced to 1 base, it always removed at the end of the JAP - page 142, right hand column, second bullet. And then the Gendarmes etc can cease pursuit.

Deadtorius,
I'm not sure about that, because it says that Gendarmes, Cavaliers and Warrior IF will pursue until their opponent is removed from the table or they pass a CMT to stop pursuit. SInce an opponent they broke is still on the table, shouldn't they continue to pusue them?

in the example unit 1 breaks while unit 2 stays to fight. Unit 2 breaks next turn and the gendarmes pursue them to death. Why would they now pursue unit 1 since they did not just break or pursue it?
You can not pursue an enemy if you are still engaged in combat so there was no initial pursuit of unit 1 since unit 2 was still there fighting. How can you continue to pursue an enemy you never pursued in the first place?

Thank you that was the bit i was looking for. Several people in this thread need to read that.
I thought it was somewhere, just didn't read slowly enough. Heat of game and all that.

But auto broken troops
are removed once they get down to one base.

ONE base being the key point. Although I must admit not fully remembering where I was when this started.

Was it at Walt's?
It started (for me at least) when a certain player tried to refuse removing his lone base maintaing contact with 2 of my units, because he want me to continue to pursue. I also couldn't find the rule at the time. Then he asked for the game to end in a draw...
