Ipad version - cost?

Hi there,

I've recently played and enjoyed the demo and so I am about to purchase the game, but before I do I was wondering about the upcoming Ipad version as I have both a PC and an Ipad.

I suppose what I don't want to do is pay £26 for the PC version now only for the Ipad version to come along a few weeks later priced at £5 or something similar and for them both to be effectively exactly the same game. Knowing, though, that no Ipad game has ever cost more than £15 makes me wary.

Maybe Pip or Iain could therefore just answer a few questions?

What is the likely price for the Ipad version?
How different is it from the PC/Mac version (if at all)?
Will anyone who has bought the PC version be able to get the Ipad version either for free or for a reduced price if they want?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense from what I know of the way the app store works and answers one of the questions.

Can anyone answer the other two though? What is the likely price going to be and how similar (or not) is it going to be to the PC version? Is there going to be an editor for instance, or the ability to download custom made scenarios?

We can't reveal the price just now but I can tell you it will not be £5. This is a full premium game and will have a premium price on any platform.

More info soon!

Iain - many thanks for the reply. I appreciate that pricing on different platforms can be a sensitive subject and remember Jeff Vogel over at Spiderweb having to deal with similar issues when he released Avadon for the Ipad (and then later on Steam).

I'll be honest here and say that I don't have a great deal of money and £26 is a lot more than I would normally pay for a game even on the PC, which is why I've spent the last week doing a lot of dithering (I'd love to buy Panzer Corps too tbh). I can see though that you obviously care about your community, are committed to improving games after release and have the right approach to DRM so I'll trust that you won't let down your PC gamers and toddle off to buy the game :)

All done, though I ought to point out that the prices on the website are a bit confusing. It says $29.99 for both the boxed version (+download) and the download only version, but when you go to buy them the price for the boxed version changes to $39.99. You then seem to get VAT added for the download version but not for the boxed version, meaning the prices come out at (when converted to UKP on the checkout) £23.99 for the download version and £25.99 for the boxed version.

Also it seems a bit odd to me that the price is slightly higher at the Matrix Games site when I thought you were now the same company?

Anyway, downloading at the moment and looking forward to getting going :)

You're right - no idea how we didnt spot that. We've fixed the price so apologies for the mix up.

No worries - just thought I'd point it out.

I see you've changed the price, but is it right that it only adds VAT for the download version and not for the boxed one? Should the expansions also be more expensive when purchased with the boxed version? I thought they were just serial numbers anyway?

VAT is all handled by the payment provider Plimus so we don't get involved there. They tell us it is working as intedned and we've asked on numerous ocaisons and without a VAT specialist on staff we have to trust them!

The expansiosn are installers or serials, you can do either. Boxed expsnions come on DVD in a nice box like the base game so should be more expensive (It costs us an extra $10 a time to make the POD versions).

Does seem odd, but then accountants do like to make things as complicated as possible - keeps them in jobs I suppose :)
