I'm playing as the Allies on hotseat/Windows 7. On Britain's 1st go I could load 2 garrisons on ships but after that no more, getting the usual message something like "no nearby friendly ports available" even though that wasn't true and I had lots of PPs. I can't get Germany to do it at all when playing as that country. I even quickly played a game v the AI to see what it would do but Britain just built lots of armies and didn't move them. I can't open the on-disc instructions as that's an S.A.S. file. Appart from this I have no other problems playing the game. Does anyone know the definitive rules for loading armies on ships?

This can happen when the port hex and all adjacent sea hexes to the port hex are occupied with transports or ships. There's basically no more room to load any more transports until you free up some of those hexes by moving units away.

But I had moved out all the ships so there were no ships anywhere near the port; and indeed tried it at all my other ports including in Canada, but still no luck. (Indeed on turn 1 when it worked even though there was a warship in port, the transport was launched to a hex outside the actual port). So my armies are still stuck in UK!!

Can you post a screen shot of this. Also, what version of the game are you playing?

version 1.12. How do you post a screenshot? (I've never taken a screenshot)

It seems to be related to difficulty level (or a bug in the level)-I could only load 2 units when the Axis had max advantage; however when we played at the next level down I could load unlimited times.

now I know why I could only load restricted numbers of units at times-seems you can't load garrisons on ships...............
