Have you seen the DMP Afrika Korps mod? Really something! Might be just what you want.

The desert campaign would be the next logical progression, although the Japanese war in the Far East would be excellent, but would by necessity require significantly more naval warfare.

Before we get to naval warfare, I would want to see a more robust mechanism for ships and carriers, along the lines of Pacific General.

The next logical GC from a technical perspective for me is a soviet campaign. Almost all of the units are there allready. Still I agree, for a change in the feel of gameplay I would prefer Africa or some Westfront allies campaign next.

The problem I see with a Soviet campaign is with the AI. Playing the Germans you expect to meet large amounts of strong units as your enemy and you know you have to use superior maneuvers and combined arms to win.
Playing the soviets you would expect to meet a less numerous but smarter enemy - which I don't think will work with this game

Well the soviet campaign could start with the finnish winter war, being the attacker and then maybe mhm... I dont know, from a scenario design perspective I think it could work with a small core and many aux troops (like conscripts and other low tech) in the years 41 42 with low prestige, where you would build the core up consequently, guarding retreat lines etc. Like with mainly defense objectives until mid 42 with from then on there could be more and more attack objectives.

If you have the time, tryout GTPG6Russians (GTPG thread in scenario design forum). As german player you are always outnumbered and culminates in a Berlin-East scenario with 232 russian units with one mission only: your demise.
I'm going to develop a Soviet Campaign in the future, after GTPG (and SS-GTPG) is finished. I hope to prove then, when you play against the germans, that you'll need that six or twelve pack closeby.
The AI is always a problem whether you play against russians or germans. That is why you have to guide the AI somewhat, especially when the AI is the attacker. I playtested some of my scenario's up to 10 times, not only to ascertain that the mission is winnable , but also if the AI is doing its job the way i scripted it.

The campaign i have on the blackboard will start with a training mission in the area of Moscow against the Germans in 1938, followed by two incidents between the Russians and the Japanese (in 1938 and 39). Then the campaign will move to Europe.

Like others here, I'm not sure about playing as the Russians either. By their nature, they will have vast resources against the AI of the computer which will have very little, but highly skilled forces.
I like the idea of the Finish war though, that would be good.

For any and all, Nikivdd and Airbornemongo's SS-GTPG campaign is a total gas! My dating life has been shredded by the fact that this mod is excellent... well designed, planned and implemented, the depth of maps is phenomenal. I highly recommend this to all my brothers and sisters in arms Good luck on Gibraltar blokes. Take extra body bags into Malta...

When to create a scenario for a campaign there are always certain factors to keep in mind.
My primary concearn is if the scenario is winnable and fun. You can give the AI superior forces or a large prestige dump but above all it should remain fun and challenging but not undoable. Nobody wants to repeat a mission to lose every time.

Airbornmongo's custom e-file definitely lifts my GTPG campaign to a higher level. So we baptised it SS-GTPG because you can purchase SS units that have better stats than the regular units (those units also have a different camo!).
(SS-)GTPG counts 39 scenario's sofar with more to come.
Also we do our best to accomodate everyone (as fast as possible) who posts feedback, suggestions and questions.

One of the best PG2 campaigns was the Soviet Black Sea campaign. I think the solution would be to provide player initially with a small core ( in fact during the initial phases of Barbarossa the Axis forces maintained a slight numerical superiority over the Soviets ). The initial scenarios, could focus on simulating some limited offensive actions undertaken by the Soviets during this period. Some scenarios could be a breakthrough operations and some would require just holding the vitory hexes till the last turn. The from 1942 onwards there would be more and more serious offensives. A lot of the German units could have a maximum experience for example.

I would like to see Allied Campaigns eventually, especially a nice long series on Patton's campaigns (including one where he defies Eisenhower and goes after Berlin himself

). Any Afrika Korps campaign would have to preclude the import of units from previous campaigns. Russian units in he desert would be very weird.

That could reflect the traditional Russian "drive towards the warm seas"

Red Dawn is a campaign about the what-if end of war scenario you describe. It's on the mods page.
