3 different bow options?

While creating a scenario I realized among
"fixed properties" we can choose 3 different bow options!
One of them is marked with (*).
Can I read somewhere in rules the differences?
Thanks in advance.

Bow 1 is your average ancient infantry bow.
Bow 2 is the ancient cavalry bow.

Hmm, that seems to leave one more Bow Option to be accounted for.

The third type is bows (foot or mounted) that use them as a secondary tactic or have MF/LF bow types mixed in. These are the * bows which normally get two dice instead of three.

The bow* represents that not the entire unit is bow armed, so less bows than a fully armed bow unit.
Could be only 1/3 or so of the unit actually has bows and they might be a secondary weapon with the melee weapon still being the main weapon for the unit. Everyone has a sword/spear or whatever, only the lesser nobility have the bows, or something along those lines.
