A little explanation to what I actually did here. I played through the 41 DLC twice on field marshal, the first time taking the Leningrad route and the second taking the Kiev route. And then I looked at what kind of experience I had and what kind of heroes I received. Bottom line up front on the Leningrad route I gained a total of 15760 and on the Kiev route a total of 16286. I expected to receive more on the Kiev route because there did seem to be a little more fighting in those three scenarios. The total difference was 526 experience.

Overall I found the captured tanks to be excellent additions to my CORE and used more of them than my own PZ IVs and PZ IIIs. At the end of the Leningrad play through I had 22,370 prestige and I had 22,761 prestige (and a fifth Stuka I never bought on the first play through!). Overall though because of the mix of heroes I received I feel that I will carry forward the first play throughs CORE and not the second. The S1 heroes I got just don't do much for me the way I play.

However I focused more on kills (which are relevant for getting heroes) than on experience, since I only use elite replacements anyway since middle of 1939. Which means that my xp is frequently maxed for most units after 2/3 of a campaign and only the kills make a difference.

I noticed that in 1941 the Kiev path has much more troops on the maps than the Leningrad path (because the Kiev pocket is there in all 3 scenarios), so if you manage to do so, you can kill much more troops (by cleaning Kiev 3 times).

Sounds like you and I play exactly the same way. Let me load my saves right before Demyansk and find out my total kills. The problem I had is that I liked my experience and my CORE from the Kiev play through but the heroes I got weren't nearly as good as the ones from the other play through. I use my planes for spotting and don't have much use for S1 heroes at all.

One thing I did is rotate out units once they maxed out experience and had two heroes. This allows me to keep a reserve of 15 or 16 units that I can rotate back in eventually when my CORE size increases. Let me check my kills and report back.

Ok so I just looked at my kills and I ended up with +26 kills by going through Kiev. This doesn't include me taking out Kiev on the first map which would be very hard to do and costly. I did penetrate the surrounding towns and captured the airfield directly north of Kiev. So I took out almost all of the tanks which probably leaves about 15-20 more units that could be killed.

However I also didn't take out Leningrad either so that I think would be more than 20+ units IF you could do it. I didn't think the cost was worth the try (though I did sink all three capital ships in the harbor just to do it ). I actually think the total number of units per branch is very close.[/img]
