During the deployment is when you hit D and you get the cost of the units back,,,but in the deployment pahase,,if you disband during a screnario the only thing that happens is that a core slot is opened up.
Here is a get source of reference:

D is the hotkey, once you have the unit selected.
Make sure to do it during the deploy phase or else you won't get prestige refunded though.

It's a new day and I'm still enjoying the game..alot. After exploring some of the references you gave me ,I think I understand core/reserve and how to alter your core force for each battle. If you need prestige ,disband during deployment and use points for new (differnt) units. If you have sufficient prestige, just purchase additional units and deploy what you want for THIS battle , the remainder will be in your reserve. Also.be sure and deploy any special units before last available core unit is deployed.Again thanks for the great list of references, they cover many newbie questions.

There is also the upgrade paths of units to consider. For example, upgrading a Pz III model to another Pz III model will cost less than going from a Pz III to a Pz IV because they are in different upgrade paths. Checking the cost variation (the green and red numbers in the purchase screen on the right) will help here.
