Hi

Bought some highlanders off the net and they appear to have the blue with white diagonal cross
scottish flag - would they use this as they are catholics or would it be something more religious
oriented .

The StAndrews cross is more of a covenanting flag. Montrose himself would have flown the lion rampant with the clans using their own clan emblems on banners.
Hope this helps.
John

Thanks

There are some Montrose flags here that can be used? There is the Strathbogie rest, the Irish brigade and the Campbell of Lawers rest.

Just look at the Flad Dude site as he lists a lot of clans and he does flags for each of them - simple.
As for the Irish we have had a lot of debate on these and their tactics. Look back and I am sure you willnfind them. The simple answer is that sometimes they used the pikes and sometimes they laid them aside. This is why ibfound the Irish a nightmare to classify in the Montrose list and even then Richard and Nik did not let me have all my own way.

Take a little look at my blog, I've got loads of free Scottish flags for the Battle of Flodden era, I know its earlier than your period, but it may give you some ideas, you never know you may be able to use some!!
