I can't understand. First the rulebook says that only half of pike&shoot BGs can be used in order to detach foot and reallocate foot between units, but at the end of the same chapter the rulebook says that it is possible to detach foot as a general rule of the game.
Therefore:
1) is it possible to detach foot from no pike&shoot BG?
2) is it possible to detach foot from all BG, not only from half BG?

What it means is that this rule can be applied to any bg's that have a mixture of shooters and none shooters. Not just P&S.

The rule is that up to half such bg's may have some or all of their shooters detached. It is this which is applied 'generally.'

I hope this answers your questions.

You also need to remember that you must have the same Attrition Points in both versions of the army. Often this will mean you need to combine the remnant bg's to avood having too many in you 'Detached Shot' list.
