How do you lock the Rommel, Manstein etc difficulties?

Just got this game and it is totally addictive. I am going through the core campaign and I will buy the DLC packs for sure... but the AI honestly seems crap. They only sit around the towns like it some kind of fortress and has no sense of a front line and only attack sparingly no real grand pincer movement etc.

How do I unlock the better difficulties? Does Rommel difficulties actually play like Rommel? (Tank attacks etc?)

Also how do you change difficulties in the middle of a campaign? (Playing the regular one right now)

I have a question too. I know that extra difficulty levels are stored in the registry. Does uninstalling and re-installing the game again keep the extra difficulty levels?

I'm not sure. It seems some configurations are not erased in Windows registry after uninstallation. But that in particular, don't know.
Kerensky might know.

I do. :)
If you only uninstall the game, and then reinstall it, the expanded difficulty modes will still be available immediately when you start the game on the new install. You have to manually go into the registry and clear them out to remove them. Or format your drive, that'll do the trick too.

Welcome to the forums, DorianIBD.

airborne answered your first question with his first link (see the second post above). [Edit]: Actually, this one might be what you're looking for - viewtopic.php?t=30267

As for the second, I think a comprehensive answer is required. There are bits and pieces in many threads but nothing that ties them all together (pun intended). Some answers are in the posts linked to in airborne's post. One day someone will make the comprehensive guide to difficulty levels but, for now, the devs have the full picture.

Things to be included:
- effect, if any, on AI behaviour
- effect on AI unit sizes
- effect on experience
- effect on prestige
- other effects that I know nothing of
