Bugs/Issues in 1.7.0

Firstly, thanks for getting the patch out - good job! However Sealion is listed as currently out of stock, as another poster has commented on - viewtopic.php?p=293540#293540

I've noticed a couple of things after playing for half an hour. One major bug, and one cosmetic issue.

1) Major. Animations when the opponents' turn is replaying (multiplayer game) are REALLY slow, as though all units are in slo-mo mode and walking in treacle!
2) Cosmetic. There is a whitespace missing in the mission info legend, ie: 'Capture & Hold VP's2:5

I would like to know whether the new patch is addressing the laptop overheating problem...or should those who have this prob stay with the 1.6.1 beta thingy where we can manually lower the FPS? I am a bit confused about this now, especially since I think I would need the new stuff to later make the Sealion add on work...

The FPSLIMIT tweak is there in 1.7 - so you should be able to keep cool no problems :).

Cheers

Can you make a guess as to how much slower they are? There were not any changes made that should affect this, and it didn't come up in any of our testing.

Is this on all scenarios, or just a subset?

Cheers

I'm currently playing the Arnhem multiplayer map and it took, I'd say a good 5 mins to process the German player replay. Each action was painfully slow to watch (especially for me as the Brit player!) and each fight was well, slow.

FYI it sometimes ran animations/replays slowly pre-1.7.0 but only occasionally.

I have a fairly well specced PC running 64-bit Windows 7. I recently rebuilt it so there's no build up of cr*p on my machine.

My friends will no doubt chip in if they also experience the same problems. Sorry!

Same problem

I didn't realize til I posted a seperate thread about sluggish replay animations that Slowbius is having the exact same problem. I did try adding the line "FORCEMINIMAP 1" to the user file and still the same issue. I dont know what in this patch is causing the slow downs for a few of us. Ill try anything or get as much specifics about it as possible Pip if it helps finding a solution. I appreciate your quick turn around as always on tech support questions!

Can both you guys give me your OS and video card info. I want to try and see if there is a common theme.

Cheers

Wow - what a monster :). Just on the offchance, can you try adding the following line to the USER.TXT file.

FPSLIMIT 30

and see if that affects the playback issue.

Cheers

Lagging still

I just went back and added the new command line FPSLIMIT 30 to the User file, and still have the first line you told me to try; FORCEMINIMAP 1. Was I supposed to delete the other one first or does it not matter if they both are there. When you get Slowbius' info I hope we can narrow down the issue here. Thanks again.

Pip,

I'm seeing the same slow down in MP only, during the replay only.

The speed of the animations/replay is similiar to SP play when you set the Options for Game Speed to 60%.

EDIT : When the replay's done, speed is back to normal.

At work right now so don't have access to my system details but will post them tonight when I get home.

Interestingly, I seem to be experiencing the same issues as Merr in MP where game speed is fine when editing my own turn but is slow during my opponents replay. Can't verify this in single player mode as I don't tend to play the single player maps.

Bizarre. The MP replay actually runs faster than usual - but it doesn't do some things (like tooltips etc) so I am wondering (given that switching fullscreen etc has sometimes seemed to fix it) whether the speedups I made for the iPad have caused some driver issues to surface :(.

I'll try and work out what is going on.

Cheers

Pip,

My video card is similiar to khill9702 ... ATI Radeon HD 5700.

Other stuff ...

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz, 2801 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. A03, 12/9/2009
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB

Thanks for looking into the matter!

btw ... I tried the tweaks you suggested including the switching out of fullscreen ... no avail.

Funny part about turning off fullscreen ... I experienced the CTRL button issue in windowed mode, tapping the CTRL fixed that. Only happened after opening another window on top of BA then going back to BA.

Oh ... one video issue I noticed ... When a scenario loads (just as it's displaying the map, etc), theres a quick burst or flash of white. I only see this when the scenario intitializes (on the first loadup). I can't remember if this happened early (perhaps more subtle?).

I never ran the 1.6.1 beta but, v1.6 ran fine as far as I can remember. If there was a slowdown in 1.6, I couldn't tell you ... I don't play MP as much as the other guys.

OK guys. Found and fixed the issue. The slowdown has actually been there since about 1.5, but it is now much more noticable due to the other game speedups. Sorry for the inconvenience - this will be fixed in the next update.

Thanks for all the help you guys have given.

Just as a note, if you reduce the screen rez you are playing at, it should reduce the slowdowns. Not ideal I know, but a workaround that should help.

Cheers

Well I just downloaded Sea Lion and will be playing that in a bit but thanks again for all the help with our issues Pip, that kind of dedicated and quick tech support for a PC game is pretty rare these days.

Thanks for investigating it Pip - just about to purchase a copy of Sealion now and give it a go :)

Any idea when the next update will be out?
