Hi All,
I've just been given a set of the rules, but haven't got any of the lists yet.
How are Samurai and Ashigaru rated?
I'm not after a complete list breakdown, but if someone can give me an idea so I know whether they are remotely useful in FoG:R I'd appreciate it.

Broadly speaking mounted samurai start off as Cavalry, Armoured, Superior, Bow, Swordsmen and then become Cavalry, Armoured, Superior, Light Lancers, Swordsmen - numbers allowed fall over time. Foot samurai are Warriors, Armoured (some Heavily Armoured), Superior, Spearmen. Ashigaru are mostly Warriors (later Medium Foot), Armoured (or Unarmoured), Average (or Poor), Spearmen with Arquebus coming in and then becoming more common.

And the HA, Elite, IF (IIRC), Warriors fear nothing - they can front up to Salvo, and give Armoured, Superior, DH a good kicking.

I did say IIRC. Whatever the Elite nasty foot are (circa 1570-1590) they chewed my Swedes at Britcon...

Hatamoto foot guards DF, HA, Elite, Spear backed by the Superior Warrior version... unless you can disrupt them...

I have two Samurai armies and am wondering if the FOG-R lists for them are good. The FOG-AM lists were sort of meh. Also,
how do they fare in an open tournament?

I'd run them in a open tourney but then I always finnish bottom of the pile...

Mr Allen, that is a technical point that I shall choose to ignore... true but unnecessarily technical.

Bottom of the pile or not,
Pick your army, Learn to use them and most of all "love them" and they will become winners!!

The problem is not the army but rather the person leading them, I fear. I love my Swiss and my Swedes very much but no amount of well loved figures can overcome basic lack of talent in a player. Still love the rules though.
