Hi,

I am just getting kind of frustrated with it on CEAW 2.0 - it looks I am running out of MP all the time and get kicked from all sides (USA invading, SU overrunning me) - is there any way to win it as AXIS Player?
Any hints?

Thanks!

Basically you can't attack on all fronts at the same time.

I am not attacking but getting attacked - at a certain point Russia attacks me and the Allied try to launch an invasion in France ;-) Any more detailed tipps?

Steel,

This game is very winnable against the AI. What you're encountering is the normal learning curve as you figure out the game. The AI is so poor, in fact, that you'll find that you're able to actually conquer the USSR (by capturing both Moscow & Omsk), which is almost unheard of in games against human opponents.

Be patient and allow yourself to make some mistakes as you learn the ropes. My main suggestion is to play multiple games against the computer just to get the opening year or two down. Practice your opening gambits before planning a full-scale 1939-1945 war.

As far as more specific advice goes, the game manual & brochures provide a lot of great suggestions.

Keep at it. it took me several tries before I won as Axis in a PBEM.

Here is an AAR done by Ronnie, one of the mod developers, that he did for a game he played as Axis against the AI.

Many useful strategies and tactics for you to learn from. One of the things that make this game challenging and replayable is striking the right balance in managing the economics of the game (manpower, oil, and PPs) against your strategies. Planning is very important, more so for the Axis as there is precious little margin of error for them.

Once you figure out the right balance for your strategy you will find playing the Axis rewarding. Also, the tactics you employ are seemingly simple to learn but take a while to master and have a great bearing on how well you manage your resources (attack order, attacking in fair weather, concentrating power, etc.) Ronnie's AAR spells out in great detail the correct way to orchestrate an attack to improve your odds while minimizing your loses. He gave away much of his "secret sauce" by doing this and I for one am a grateful recipient :D .

Best of luck, the game is worth the effort and it really shines in PBEM.

Not only can the Axis win, they can win a total victory. Last game I played ended with the surrender of all major Allied powers by autumn of 1944. It takes some time to get the hang of it, but once you figure out the AI it's not too hard to beat regularly.

Get General labs as soon as possible. They can be used to focus research on what the Allies lack (quality) and what the Axis lack (numbers).

I've learned a lot from my first game to my second but am still getting my rear kicked. I think I could do better but I always run out of oil in 1942. Happened to me again even though I took a passive Africa stance.

perhaps the most difficult part of the game for the Axis is to manage your oil

you can't have lots of ARM, FTR and TAC's as they burn to much oil, you also can't attack continuously

one thing you can do is attack yugoslavia early to get your oil production up quickly and also look at MECH's in place of ARM (most people have approx 6 ARM)

For Axis, oil management is definitely key. I learned early on to ask myself that old question from the WWII 'home front' posters: "Is this trip necessary?" Never, ever move or attack with an oil-burning unit without a distinct purpose. For example, after Warsaw falls in '39, I keep my mechs and panzers still until I can rail them (coal, not oil!) into their positions.

As Stauffenberg (Borger) is always reminding us, building up Industry (under the General labs) increases the amount of oil you produce from all of your wells. This can really add up.

Looks like I overbuilt. I've got 14 armor and about 10 mechs in Sep 42.

Does Yugoslavia have any oil? I don't remember seeing any on the map from the last time I played.

I'll keep in mind what you guys said about rail-ing whenever possible. I did do that when I transferred from Poland to the West.

I may have too many planes as well.
