New tasks for combat engineers

One future improvement for PC that I would like to see is an expansion of new tasks/abilities for combat engineers besides bridging rivers . It would be neat to see combat engineers be able to create entrenched positions with barbed wire, and also lay minefields. Land mines were a huge part of many battles in WW2, especially Kursk. The Russians laid tons of mines, and engineer units (among others) had to blast pathways though them so that tanks and infantry could advance. In city scenario battles, like Stalingrad, engineer units also blew holes through buildings to allow houses to be stormed easier. Engineers also could build airstrips. Right now, only having the ability to bridge a river seems like an under-utilization of the engineer. Just my two cents...

Pioneres are the combat engineers I think you are referring to (for the Germans anyway). Every major nation has them now - they are very useful because they ignore entrenchment when attacking. Some of the other things, like mines, might be better represented by terrain features as they took quite a while to lay IIRC.

Not really. The Bridge Engineer unit has a limited function, and it has relatively weak combat abilities. The pioneer is stronger, but it only has combat abilities. I am talking about a unit (perhaps a hybrid of the Bridge Engineer and Pionere) that can build entrenchments/fortifications, lay minefields, build airstrips, etc. I think it would add a whole new dimension to the game and more accurately represent the historical function of the engineer unit in WW2.

All,
I know I saw a list of special abilities for units but no clue where I saw it.
Can someone point me to it or let me know them all.
Thx,
