The rule declares that the interception must be straight forward and can be up to the limit of the ZOI.
Here in Italy there's an idea that if some enemy-friendly unit or terrain obstruct the ZOI, the intercepting unit cannot do the movement (translating "can be up to..." with "must be up to...").
Can someone agree with my version of the rule and allow me to intercept doing less movement?

I'll try this one but haven't looked at the book.

Firstly no shifts are allowed in an intercept so if friends etc are in the way of moving enough to intercept then the intercept does not happen. You also cannot drop bases in an intercept.

Secondly you cannot intercept through terrain that disorders you which means MF could intercept through rough terrain but Cav/HF/Knights etc couldn't.

You do not need to move the intercepting troops the full amount of the ZOI - e.g. mounted do not have to move 4MU - however, a shorter move than the full ZOI distance must still cross the charge path of course. Rob makes other useful points above.

A plain English reading of the phrase "... up to the limit of..." means the BG can move any distance it wishes but no more than 2/4 MUs (as applicable).
