What would be the system specs?

I would like to be able to use my old PC (500 MHz, 128RAM, 64Videocard) for this.
Please.

We're doing what we can but the game is huge so its probably going to more than that to run. We'll get final specs soon.

To be honest the final specs when compared to other games of this genre (HOI2, SC2), and what slitherine accustom me to. are incredibly high. Are there any chances that the code will get optimized in future patches to lower them a bit (like it happened to HOMMV)

One of Johan's major jobs is to upgrade to a more recent version of Java which means a comlete re-write so it will happen fo the next game but not this one. We know the specs are very high but this is a technical limitation on the type of Java used I'm afraid.

so theres no converter to transfer code to a newer version?

Anyway to talk to the java people to work something out?

The graphics engine is one thing but another issue that is not to forget is the AI. No matter the frame rate, with a 500 MHz computer the AI turns would in 1942-1945 with lots of units and a big map take a relatively long time. It is not desirable to rewrite the AI and possible make the AI dumber for those with 500 MHz machines so for consistency it is better aiming at a higher specification IMO.

So the game's written in Java? Ok, that explains the requirements, it is not a good environment for a game. Anyway if AI calculations are part of the "problem" would it be a correct assumption one could run the game @ let's say Duron 800 mhz and just have very, very long AI turns?

I would not advice anyone to play the game at less then the minimum requirements.

Ok. I just hope those specs way above what a typical wargamer would expect won't hamper it's success as I have pretty high hope for this game (esp it becoming a series). :)

I have no problem with the system requirements.

There are some great wargames on the horizon, and they are worth a computer upgrade.

Does "not good" mean bad? Plenty of decent games have been written in Java.

I did say you can't write a good game in java, in fact everything suggests C-EaW will be a great game. it's just java is not good for performance.

Depends on the type of game. It is simply wrong to say Java is bad for games. Java has support for openGL, but since CEaW is not a 3D game the cons outweighted the pros and the graphic engine was made differently.

Are you saying the cons of java outweigh the pros??? If so why java? BTW is there a chance we'll see things like Linux port of the game?

No, the cons outweighted the pros using openGL, so I did not use it. We do not have any plans for a Linux version but Macintosh is not out of the question :)
