There are 4 letters (A-C and $) that can be placed as overlays on the map. They can be used to denote where victory conditions exist or prestige boosts for $. e.g. Take all 'A' hexes for a DV - Each '$' hex adds 50 prestige etc.. This means victory conditions do not rely on there being a flag with a gold border to indicate a victory condition exists. I think they are being used in upcoming DLC maps so perhaps Kerensky can add some details.

Reading this I thought - couldn't this actually being used to make a visible difference between primary and secondary objectives on the map (what I wondered about elsewhere)? One could use the standard gold hexes in the editor for the primary VHs and use one of those new overlays to indicate secondary targets.

About these markers, they can be used to indicate anything - exit zones, trigger zones, zones where reinforcement will appear etc. Anything you want to indicate to player. You just need to tell him in the briefing what they mean.
So far we added only a few symbols which we needed in the DLCs, but it is a whole layer on the map, and it can have a lot more symbols in the future. So, let us know what exactly you need there.

Arrows (6 directions - one for each side of a hex)
Reinforcements: soldier or vehicle (light enough not to be a distraction)
As mentioned above: something to distinguish a primary and secondary objective (a different coloured border?)
