Steamroller against Steel

Having a crazy match with soldier, I wish I was documenting from the start.

Pretty much locked in a close 5 to 4 VH struggle for most of the game, and then the game just went absolutely crazy with on turn 25 of 30. Flanking moves happening all over the place, VH changing hands constantly, just mass hysteria and desperation.

The only unit available to him to prevent me from moving the Tiger on the city was his arty unit. Note it's my city, he just didn't want to leave it for the Tiger to sit on and have to root out the Tiger.

Eventually his help arrived sooner than mine did, so I changed directions and went after another VH I'd been besieging for a few turns.
Image

As crazy as this seems, this example is pretty much happening ALL over the map at every single Victory Hex, just an absolutely chaotic struggle to get more VHes before the 30th turn ends the game.

There was an epic siege for this VH, what you see are the left overs after probably 15 turns of combat. 3 Elephants, 4 or more StuG IIIGs, at least 3 88s, and uncounted German infantry held as long as they could, but in the end they were crushed.

BUT all that fighting let me sneak a bridge engineer and two StuH42s around to grab this northern VH!

It's pretty much all down to this one VH, all others aren't hotly contested anymore. I lost some, won some others. But it's currently 5 to 4, so if he retakes this one VH on his last turn, he'll win. If he doesn't then victory is mine!

Either our players are getting better, or I'm just not as pro as I thought I was. Another loss!

The situation at Shapirovka:

And Melikov:

But the all important VH at Zabutai was lost, three infantry a T-34/85, and a sneaky Katyusha were too much for my poor bridge engineers to survive. :(

Butcher of the game, Marshal Klestoff with 88 kills. That's the equivalent of destroying just short of nine entire units.

The conclusion:

Its hard to believe that after 30 turns it came down to the very last turn and also my actual last attacking unit at Zabutai. So if it was a loss it was by the smallest possible margin. I was a bit nerve racked there. The seige of schetyna was truly epic, i just could not dig you out ! It looked relatively straight forward after i broke out of the centre and moved up to the outskirts with only some sporadic resistance slowing my progress... Too think i was still fighting over that same ground some 14 turns later.
them shells...

I've got some work and other things to do this week. How about this weekend we go for a rematch, switched sides? :)

I'm gonna be working over the next 4 days so i won't be able to play many turns over the weekend but i"m definitely up for a rematch. Send us a message anytime and we'll take it from there. Should be quite the challenge as axis

If you're up for that rematch now, let me know. :)
