Captured Equipment in the DLC

So far I have really enjoyed the DLC expansions. Nothing too challenging but still fun on field marshal mode. But I was wondering what was the deal with captured equipment. Is it random or does is always in specific scenarios? Does it count as part of your core or is it a free unit? I ask because I got two captured tank units in the 1940 grand campaign ( a char b1 and an S35 I believe).

Howdy and welcome

The capturable units are placed on the map,,they are placed there by the design teams and are not random

They do count trwds your core,,but they can be upgraded just like units you bought.

Captured units will stay with your core and count as part of your core.

While you can upgrade them, you can only upgrade them to German units without any discount.
The rather slow Char B1 and Matilda II's will lose their usefulness at some point and you might want to keep them for the sake of having them.
During the 1941 DLC they will for sure stay useful. The Char is a wonderful infantry destroyer.

Very interesting. I really like that idea. Is there a way to tell if the unit is able to be captured ahead of time? I was just wondering because I didn't even realized I had captured either tank until it was already done. Do you have to defeat it in combat or is it captured when you take over a town. Thanks for the quick replies!

I think this is what you are looking for :)

Keep in mind a few things : after you capture the appropriate city hex, the "captured" unit will spawn in a predetermined adjacent hex at the beginning of the next turn. So the unit won't spawn if the hex stays occupied, and/or if you capture thecity on your last turn.

Thanks for the link. Very helpful so they do count as your core so not really a free unit even though you don't have to pay for it initially.
