Running: 1.70 FoG with SoA. Win Xp sp3. Laptop w/ dual core 2ghz, 3gb ram.
1) Sometimes the game will hang on the load screen (the one that says Hex War etc.). Occasionally I will hear the bg music start up before the hang but not always. Usually I am presented with a crash report from windows but sometimes it just hangs and I need to use the task manager to shut it down. Reinstalling the game and all patches fixes it but it seems after I reboot the problem resurfaces. I read about a similar problem to this on the forum and I think somebody said a patch would address it soon.
2) When a SoA unit has performed an action they are grey-ed out as normal, but if I select them they become invisible. It's as if the art image is not loading correctly or something.
3) When I was initially playing vanilla FoG on patch 1.25 I was able to scroll around the map using the WASD very nicely. For some reason since installing SoA and the patches the WASD keys (and panning with the mouse) have become extremely sensitive. Just tapping in a direction launches me several screens over. Being able to pan around the battle field smoothly was really great I have no idea why its not working so well any more. Is there a setting somewhere to adjust the pan speed? Maybe its just me

Thanks for replying so quickly.
I am running a (crappy) mobile intel 965 express with drivers from Jan 2010. I think those are most current but I have not checked.
The load screen hangs have not happened since my last re-install.
When a SoA unit has completed an action and gets greyed out it the sprite will still disappear when selected, and I am still having problems panning the camera around. Under the earlier version before I got SoA I did not have this problem, its very odd.

I installed the game plus SoA with the new 1.7.1 patch on my other PC (with a legit video card) and it runs like a dream.
Installed the 1.7.1 patch on my laptop and I'm still having the issue with panning the camera around and the SoA sprites disappearing.
Besides uninstalling, how can I completely remove all FoG content and then reinstall?

Edit: Just removed/re-installed again on my laptop and I noticed when I was running the stand-alone 1.60 patch the patch thought I was on version 1.7.1 still, even though I had uninstalled the game. Still having the same issues, very strange.

Well I reformatted and reinstalled XP.
After installing v 1.01 everything worked great, no scrolling issues, no sprites vanishing.
Then I installed the 1.60 patch and the scrolling probs and sprite vanishing has returned!!

So has this happened to anybody else? I'm really bummed that I keep having glitches like this in the updated version of the game. I'm excited about Wolves from the Sea and I hope I can get this and the overly-sensitive camera movements fixed by then. Thanks.

I've asked the team to look at it but no luck so far. We suspect it might be somethign related to your graphics card but we dont have one that we can repeat it on at the moment

It could be that the issue is that not enough memory is assigned to the graphics card.
On your PC you probably need to do two things. First of all check you have the latest graphics drivers. Check windows update and your PC vendors support web site. Then:
1) Check that OpenGL is enabled. The chip set supports OpenGL but this is often disabled by default.
2) Make sure that the system has 128Mb of RAM assigned to the video card.
If 128Mb is assigned the game should work fine, although slower, than without OpenGL enabled. You probably need to use your PC vendors support web site for how to change the amount of RAM assigned to graphics. This can often be done through the BIOS settings on boot. Many vendors supply a nice interface to manage this as part of the windows control panel.

Thanks for the replies, no luck though.
The Intel video driver app has an OpenGL settings page that confirms it is enabled. I have tried playing with some settings here but without any luck. Also GPU Caps confirms OpenGL 2.0 is installed.
When the unit vanishes it simply vanishes, its never a flicker or partial disappearance. And, as I said before this doesn't happen under version 1.01 and neither does the scrolling problem occur then. I'm not sure if that supports the video card/drivers/opengl as a diagnosis or not.
My laptop certainly isn't a big gaming machine but it can run Distant Worlds Legends and a few other game well.
Thanks again and I'll take any other suggestions as to what to try next or what info you need, I appreciate the help.

Partially SOLVED:
I uninstalled my up-to-date Intel drivers for my GM 965/GMAx3100 and installed 3rd party custom drivers.
If you are encountering this problem do this at YOUR OWN RISK.
I got the modded drivers from (a super sketchy site):

They passed my virus scan. I installed them and now the issues with scrolling are resolved. I can scroll with the WASD or mouse very smoothly. Sprites that are darkened will still vanish if selected, but the scrolling issue was much more pertinent to playability.
The new drivers do not appear to hinder my ability to play other games (Distant Worlds). So far so good.
