Terrain questions

I may have missed it searching the forums but is there a list of the different terrain features and numbers along with bonuses, minuses in attacking etc. Maybe a pdf master list for reference. The in game library had no combat values for attacking in and out of terrain. Are there any combat modifiers for terrain? Am i missing something somewhere in game? I am a casual pc gamer and a hardcore console gamer so that may explain my dopiness in this pc arena.

I love the game and am waiting for an Allied General, Pacific General, Fantasy General and Iraq/ Afganistan General. How about a making sweet love general? They say love is war btw...... :D

Never seen a list either but I more or less always use CTRL+Click to get combat predictions and then I'll see any modifiers for the terrain.

I'm interested, what the properties of the bocage terrain type are?
There is nothing about written in the manual. I guess, it is also a dangerous hex, but it would be still good to know, what exactly it does.

For terrain modifiers, have a closer look in game in the Library.

Terrain has 2 ways to modify combat:
- it can be normal or close combat type, with close combat favoring inf.
- it can limit initiative also favoring units with lower initiative.

Other combat values do not get modified by terrain as far as I know.

All such information can be found in the Library.

One important terrain effect is that of rivers which have dramatic effects on combat, this is explained in the Manual.

Also, terrain determines how fast units gain entrenchment there. This is the base entrenchment rate, which is also modified by unit class in question, and it is also in the Library. Finally, of course terrain affects movement, and full details are given in the Movement section of the Library.

Thanks for the tip!

(Still, I think, it would be useful to add the terrain properties detailed in the manual. Also the replace rules should be viewed more clearly, that green replacements costs zero and elite replacements costs the half at the deployment phase. The second fact is even not in the manual, but the first one can be also light overviewed - maybe an independent part should be about it in the manual.)

Sorry, I don't understand this initiative cap thing. :)

Initiative decides who fires and causes damage first. The higher the better.
If there is a terrain with initiative cap than units initiative is lowered to this amount. This means that the high initiative units loose their advantage in such terrain.

Thanks! So, if there is a 3 point initiative cap, than the unit will "have" not his own cap value at the fight, but this one?

Initiative can be capped by weather or terrain. In good weather, the initiative cap for non-infantry units is whatever the type of hex is, for example, 100 for clear terrain, and 1 for city. Infantry always fight with their initiative in clear or cloudy weather.

In rain or snow, the initiative for ALL units, including infantry, is capped. I believe the value is 1 in both rain and snow. Fallschirmjager and grenadiers in particular suffer from this problem. This is how on the MP map The Frozen North the soviet infantry can fight with the Germans, since the higher initiative value of the 43 German infantry is negated by the constant snow. This also has the effect of making mass attack more important in snow/rain, and it will have a bigger impact on armor/armor battles.

Sorry to necro a thread, but can we please get the terrain table into this sticky? The terrain info isn't available in the Library on the iPad, so i'm still compketely in the dark on all of the impacts, and since they are a huge part of the game, it would be nice to know!

Yeah without the terrain info in the IPad Libary I don't know what the stats of the different terrain are and I am still not sure how terrain impacts combat

Awesome Ksasaki! Thanks for the info. Now I can read it somewhere!

I'd still like Slitherine to add it to the iPad version if at all possible :)

Of course the full Libary and the full details of combat should be added
The IPad version is the full game that was released on PC so it really should have included the full Libary and full details of combat form the start
