Bornu at Warfare

A great weekend at Warfare – many thanks to Tim & friends for all their hard work and running a very smooth tournament. I took a stupid army on the premise that as I’m likely to come near the bottom of the pile – going by recent competitions – then I might as well take a fun army. So, I took the Bornu 1580 from the Central Sudanese list with the GC C-in-C as Idris Aloma and a Tuareg Ally. With no muskets or cannon in the list the games would be a challenge!
My list:
1 GC, 2 TC, 1 Tuareg Ally TC
1 x 6b LF, unarmoured, average, javelin
1 x 8b LF, unarmoured, average, bow
2 x 10b W, unarmoured, average, spear
1 x 8b W, unarmoured, average, spear
2 x 4b MF, unarmoured, average, arquebus
1 x 6b W, armoured, superior, bow, heavy weapon
2 x 4b LH, unarmoured, average, javelin
1 x 4b CV, armoured, average, light lance, sword
1 x 6b CV, armoured, average, light lance, sword
1 x 4b CM, unarmoured, superior, light lance, sword
1 x 4b CM, unarmoured, superior, light lance, sword
1 x 4b DH, armoured, superior, light lance, sword
Total – 15 BG’s
Game 1 vs Dave Allen’s Scots Covenanter. It was a tough fight but I lost my army to a stupid move right at the bell. A big cavalry fight on the wing went 50:50. Although Dave lost 2 generals he won the infantry battle despite being in my favour.
Game 2 vs Lance Flint’s TYW German. Lance had a nightmare of a game. Although his 8 artillery wreaked havoc the rest of his dice were truly awful. Lance conceded after losing 7 or 8 BG’s to my 2.
Game 3 vs Dave Parrish’s Early TYW Swedish. A marginal win in my favour. I somehow managed to avoid contact with all of Dave’s infantry regiments while luckily smashing through his cavalry and massed commanded shot / regimental guns.
Game 4 vs Simon Clarke’s Buccaneer army. With no mounted in his army, Simon’s army looked small on the Steppe but had awesome firepower. The foot has sword in melee as well, which proved very useful. Another marginal win for me though with more time the game could have gone either way. My infantry did better than my cavalry here.
Thanks to all my opponents for some great games and look forward to seeing you all again next year.
Cheers
Richard
