BosDragon's German Units

Heya guys :D

I've decided to make some custom units for Panzer Corps as well. Some of you may know me from ModDB, I've been active with Men of War modding in the past few years, but a few months ago I've started to make some units for PzC and I'm really enjoying it.

Anyway, I have one German airplane ready for your scenarios, while my Japanese ground units are in the process of creation.

I hope you enjoy this one, here's the link:

EDIT: I have uploaded the new version of Fi-156 Storch, check the link above and see if you like it :)

Hey BosDragon. Always cool to see someone else creating units.
You Fieseler has one slight issue: the viewpoint/perspective is incorrect as compared to the ingame planes. I made exactly the same mistake in my first plane - it turned out it was pretty easy to resolve, once I knew what I was doing.
How are you creating your icons?

I'm glad I can be of service, I hope you'll like my new jap ground units once they're finished.

Yes I noticed that perspective is a little bit offset with this specific airplane, but it's pretty different with my ground units, you'll see once they're published. I create icons by copy/paste the 3d model render into some of the existing .png PzC models, and then I try to match the figures inside the original .png file.

Can you tell me where am I doing wrong? It's obvious that my render angle wasn't the best, but I can repair it once I get the right angle :)

May you can try to use isometric projection when rendering ???

Ah, if you have access to a 3D model it should be pretty simple. Your viewpoint is probably too close to the object, just scroll out a bit in the viewer, if that doesn't suffice, just bank the plane a bit until you get a good approximate. I actually zoomed in on an existing plane, put thin paper on my monitor and sketched around it with a light pencil for reference. :P
Anyway, experimenting a bit solved the issue for me, it wasn't too difficult. If I could do it, I'm sure you can, too. :)

Maybe wino's reply is more helpful than mine, I couldn't tell - I have very little knowledge of actual 3D software suites, unfortunately.

Yeah, I figured it's just about the angle being too low and camera being too close. The right wing kinda looks stretched because of the perspective. I will re-render the unit again and I'll upload the fixed icon.

The isometric projection should do the trick. BTW, that idea with sketching the unit isn't bad either (in case you don't have a 3d rendering tool)

In my mind, isometric projection will be good when rendering. For the shadow, I think it's better drawn in Photoshop.
Also, Bosnia Dragon, are you working on some Japanese units as well? Maybe we can co-operate in Modding! Our team is working on a Sino-Japanese Mod at the moments. :D

Does one of you guys have access to 3D Studio Max, perchance?
I need a single max file converted to 3DS or any "public" format, and from what I recollect, that's only possible with 3D Studio Max itself.
If you have 3DSM and could convert a file, drop me a PM, I promise it's really only a single file.

Sorry, rezaf, I'm not using 3Ds Max. But i guess you may try a trial version if just for converting.

You can send me your file and I will convert - but please to my e-mail adress - I have no entry to forum pm system.

Thank you very much for the offer HBalck, I emailed the file to the address you announced in the thread for your planned Afrika Korps mod.
Man, browsing it again made me look at all these great units you created again - I really hope you'll be releasing the single player mod one day, it'd be such a waste never to see all these fine creations in action.

Yes, actually I'm working on four japanese tanks, they should be finished soon. Once I publish them, you can review the units and say if they are worthy of being in your mod ;)

Thanks a lot, Bosnia Dragon! Actually, the japanese tank is the most we want, we already have the infantry and artillery ready. If you need these units, just let me know.

Great thread.
I like seeing people cooperating with each other and with their mods. :D

My contribution for the Storch plane. A movement sound of a Storch to be used in Panzer Corps.

Wow, thank you Paulus! I'm gonna replace the old sound with this one ;) It's very cool and realistic. It sounds like a real Storch now :) I will definitely need to re-post this unit once I repair the icon and update the sound file.
