Allies question

Hi there,
New field of glory player here, sorry if my question is dumb.

So here it is: I am building a classical Greek army from Immortal Fire. I would like the bulk of my forces to be Aitalions but with allied Thessalian Calvary. My question is this: Can I take normal Calvary with my Aitalions AND take Thessalian Calvary with my allied Thessalians? Also when taking the Thessalians do I need to take the 16 bases of Hoplites minimum with them in addition to the hoplites my army already fields?

Thanks a bunch!

Since your CinC is Aitolian the minimum # of hoplites in the entire army is 12. At least 6 need to be part of the Thessallian allied contingent. Also the Thessalian allied contingent can have one BG of Thessalian Cavalry. This is in addition to any non-Thessalian cavalry in the main army. An allied contingent is limited to the minima and maxima of the ally's list, so having a Thessalian ally does not give you access to the maxima for Thessalian cavalry on the main list. That would only apply if the CinC were Thessalian.

Without looking at the list, I'm sure what Gozerius says is correct... at least it seems correct.

With the Greeks in particular (and indeed anyone who has a whole heap of allied contingents) you have to be careful about what you're trying to do.

You may find that it's better to create a 'Thessalian' army with an Aitolian ally to get the result you want.

Have a bit of a play around with it.

For example, I've often thought I may get the flair I want for my Vikings by taking an OTHER than Viking army and taking a HUGE Viking allied command. I wouldn't do it because I want to run Vikings (even though I often use them as Post-Viking Scandanavians), but if I could overcome my silly notion of running Vikings I may end up with a 'better' army by swapping things around somewhat.
