Charging Home or Not on revealed targets

Following a game...

one stickler with Numidian cavalry stopping short of charging Principes exposed by evading Velites because the rules appear to imply they 'can' choose not to charge other units other than the original target. If correct, no details of how far short of fresh target they stop, or any options around that. Feels like a hole in the rules because I would have thought that mounted who don't charge home on new targets (presumably Shock troop types would not have a choice - they would have to charge home) might have some fall/rally back option if the opponents not charged home on are foot?is

In the 5.01 rules as written if your target evades and reveals something nasty you simply pile into it.

However in the next incarnation of the rules which is currently being worked on there are a number of changes detailed in the sticky post from Richard.

One of them is:

19) Skirmishers can halt a charge 1MU away from revealed non-skirmishers and don??™t have to step forward into them.

I hope this helps
