Is there anything to prevent this army from doing front rank Armoured HW and rear rank Protected Crossbow?

I don't see a prohibition on it.

There is a requirement that prohibits it, I think it is in the appendix as it applies to all lists.

In the appendix page 155:

"Unless specifically stated otherwise in an army list, all troops in an battle group must be of the same armour class. Excluding Light Foot, all the bases in a mixed battle group must be of the same armour class"
