oil use??

Okay, I know I'm terrible at this game so hopefully someone can explain the following.

On turn 9 of the game with Ronnie, Allies had 882 oil at turn start. This was with maybe 2 STRAT attacks before the German air arrived on the borders of Holland and Belgium (6 oil).

All Brit ships moved about for 8 of those 9 turns (64 oil). Through in a couple movement points for the French and Brit fighters moving about (4 oil).

Total used to that point: approximately 74. Eight turns of 13 oil gained each equals 104.

Yet my oil at this point is 882. Why the drop of almost 120 oil?

Then, from Turn 9 to German turn 15 (France falls), I calculate:

145 oil used (calculating 4 fighters fighting every turn (German and Allied) from T11 on, and 2 or 3 from T9-T10 both sides)(but there were two or more turns when the fighters refitted and didn't fight in the Allied portion of the turn.)(+ 48 oil to ship movement)(and they didn't all move every turn)

But also sees 78 oil gained in those turns. So should have been a loss of 67 oil. Yet by turn 15 I am down to 585. Can someone explain?

check you haven't breached the theoretical max of any units - that increases oil use

No, and even if so...

why the drop to 882 by T9 when should have been an approximate gain of 25 to keep it at 999?

And then, how does it drop by over 400 by T15?

Maybe I shouldn't be playing this beast since I so don't understand this aspect and no one seems able to explain. I get that I'm missing something, but can no one explain the Allied oil usage?

When a country surrenders you lose the oil reserves in that country. The oil you see is the sum of all oil for that side. France starts with a big oil reserve and it's removed when they surrender. The same with Italy and Germany when they surrender.

Thank you. Have played Axis so much the last year don't remember ever noticing that one before. Thanks again for taking the time to explain.

Dan,

I went back and check the allied oil levels from a game against and one for which I wrote the AAR viewtopic.php?p=231083#231083

The allied oil level for the turn before the fall of France (turn 16) was 757. The allied oil for the next turn (17) was 568. So the oil levels that you're seeing are consistent to what I saw in that game.
