Hello, I am new here and i have a question about upgrading tanks. Should i keep my tanks i am given at the start of the campaign (Poland) and keep upgrading them until i get tigers or disband them and buy better ones right away? I am just curious as the best way to do this for equipment. Any help someone can give would be great. Thanks!

If you disband during deployment (say during the next scenario, Norway), you will get the prestige back for the unit; however, you will lose any acquired experience. If you upgrade, you will keep the experience, but pay full price for the upgrade unless you stay within the same class: for instance, upgrading a PzIIIF to PzIIIG (when available) will only cost the difference in prestige. So, the trade-off is up to you. You could also disband your starting tanks on the first turn; however, you will not get back your prestige for them.

I have adopted the practice of disbanding them. You get prestige points back and the units you disband don't have that much experience, so you don't lose out on too much. Also, you can enter the PZ III upgrade path which has more powerful tanks early. Hope this helps.

I upgrade the PIA to a PIB in Norway

The PIVD becomes available in France ,that is when I upgrade all of my armor to the PIV class. This way the experience aquired in Poland and Norway (while not much) is not lost.

As you can see there are 3 repsonses and 3 different styles of gameplay.

My sincere advice is to experiment a little and come up w/ a strategy of procurement and reinforcement that suits your style of play

P38t is the same upgrade path as PIII by the way, and available in Poland.

The family relationship upgrade discount between the 38T and PZIII has been removed in the upcoming patch.

My usual upgrade method is to disband the PzIIC, upgrade the PzIA to PZIB and get a new PzIB in Norway. Play the scenario with 3 PzIB and the auxiliary PzIVD.
There really is no need for Hard Attack tanks in Norway and the extra prestige can be better used in planes.
In Low Countries, disband all those PzIB and go the PzIV route (PzIII can be a good early option too).

I can't say anything specific, but with the upcoming DLC content, you may find all the various panzers to be useful in specific roles, especially at higher difficulties. Don't forget that the PzIVD and the PzI, PzII all have the same defense values, but the PzI is a mere 100ish prestige.

So there's definitely no right answer.

Is the patch coming built-in with the DLC, or will it be available separately, as well?

Thank you for the quick response! Maybe I am pushing it :D , but when is the patch due? Same time as the DLC release?

The patch is out. Tank dynamics have gotten a pretty large scale overhaul, I highly recommend taking a look at the balance notes.

Scrap the I and II tanks in Norway deployment screen and buy yourself IIIs instead. Upgrading the I and IIs to III or IV is basically throwing away prestige.
Or better: paying a very high price for about 50 experience. This way you save about 450 prestige and operate with a modern tank force from the start. And this will be cumulative, since you will not have to reinforce them as often, have a bigger effect on the battle, advance faster etc.

Disadvantage is they will start with 0 xp in Norway, which they do not need anyway until Russia. The correct positioning of the tanks on clear hex fields and avoiding forest, hills, river, countryside and bocage will affect the tank performance way more than the half star of experience.

I am finding out the hard way that strategy is just as important as having the best equipment...
