Just curious, several lists: Ghaznavids, Abbasids, to name a few, whose ending dates are 10th century, up to late 12th century feature Natufins....Were there really firearms being used at such early dates?

Oh yeah, as early as 424BC but more commonly seen in the 400AD range and up.
The Maccabees record their usage apparently.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_fire - talks about the early battles where it was used.

Naffatun are represented as firearms in the game but are actually things like fire bombs/grenades and fire syphons using things like Greek Fire and similar combustible mixes rather than gunpowder weapons.

Ah ok... As such though they dont seam apropriate for use in open field battles, rather sieges, naval boarding actions etc.

You may find it more productive to discuss this in the general Field of Glory forum where the rules and list writers are more likely top reply. Keith
