Just finished the Norway scenario and have 2 S.E. tank units. However, I noticed that while the other Panzer units (Panzer IA, IB, IIC) could be upgraded for eg. to Panzer IVD, the 2 S.E. Panzer IIIFs could not be upgraded. Is there a timeline for S.E. tank units? If there is, when will the S.E. upgrades be available? Thanks in advance.

SE PzIVD should become available in France.

Unless I'm mistaken that should be the only discrepancy and all the other models become available at the same time as their non S.E. variants.

Fimconte, does that mean its only available mid-scenario in France, as I don't see any upgrades available in the pre-deployment screen (ie. I haven't started the battle yet)?

Hmm, according to the equipment file, SE PzIVD becomes available 27.5.1940.

Scenario mode France begins on June 4th 1940, so it should be available for upgrade.
So I'm not sure why it's not available.


Edit: Actually I just checked one of my older saves in France and I have a SE PzIVD on June 4th.

That's really strange as the Upgrade button for the S.E. tank units can't be activated. I'll retry again tonight when I get back. Thanks.

I haven't spotted many cases of "prototype" unit presence in the campaign. Norway comes to mind, as there you have an auxiliary PzIVD but you can't buy any for your core. I'd have expected the SE units to be such prototypes, but sometimes they are not even quite the latest and greatest unit type available.

Hmm, this is really strange. At the pre-deployment screen, for the S.E. Panzer IIIF, you can click on the "Upgrade" button, but the screen only shows a Panzer IIIF (in camo) which you already have. I wish one of the devs could answer this one. Wondering whether I need to edit a file or something.

Interesting question. SE units have the "bonus" trait. I assume that means they cannot be bought and can only be got through the game awarding them. However, the Pz III of whatever variant belongs to the PzIII series for upgrades. I wonder if that forces the Pz III to only be able to upgrade to another Pz III? If so, it's a dodgy deal!

Definately not the case, I've been able to upgrade a SE PzIII to IV and vice versa...plus I've been ablt to later upgrade to Panthers, Tugers and Tiger IIs

So... can you or can't you click the upgrade button for your SE panzer?

And does the upgrade button work as expected for your other non-SE panzers?

I cant think of a single reason why he's not able to upgrader his SE PzIIIs to IVs in France unless he's modified someting?

@Molve - Just tried it again just now. All other units apart from SE can be selected and upgraded ie. Panzer IA to Panzer IVD, 105mm Artillery to Sturmpanzer, Wehrmacht Infantry to Grenadier, Fallschirmjager to Grenadier, etc. For the two SE Panzer IIIFs (one obtained after Poland, the other in the just concluded Norway scenario), you can click on the "Upgrade" button which will bring you to the "Upgrade" screen. But the "Upgrade" screen only shows the SE Panzer IIIF model, there are no other SE Panzer models for me to choose from.

Will the game offer an SE tank upgrade mid-battle or if I complete the France scenario which I haven't started yet? Fimconte has informed me in this thread that he's got a save with an SE Panzer IVD and Horseman says the same thing so its not changes made in patch 1.02 or anything like that? Running the mods Historical Insignia and Real Sounds Mod only in GME. I didn't get any SE tanks in my previous campaign until late in the game so I can't really tell from previous experience. Thanks in advance.

Do eithe rof those mods make a change to the equipment file?

The only file I can think of that would effect the availabilty of SE PzIVDs is the quipment file located in the data folder..but I'm not sure if either of the 2 mods you have installed would make any changes to that OR if someone had midofied the France scenario to start at a later date!

I believe the problem is that jaggy is on the Low Countries since the OP states he just finished Norway (everyone seems to be assuming he is on France). The SE version of the PzIVD isn't available until France, as some have already noted. Once he finishes the Low Countries and gets to France, he should be able to upgrade at that time. After that, I believe the SE variations become available as soon as the regular versions do (ie., once the Tiger is available, you'll be able to upgrade your SE units to them). The PzIVD, for some reason, is the only one you have to wait a scenario.

Well spotted there AgentX - I was assuming he was in france already!

• PzIVD becomes available: 5.5.1940
  Invasion of the Low Countries: 10.5.1940
  SE PzIVD becomes available: 27.5.1940
  Invasion of France: 4.6.1940

A bit of a mix up there.

AgentX, thanks for clarifying. Whew! For a moment there, I thought it was a bug that was only affecting me. SE Panzer IVD available after Low Countries and before France, got it. Sorry, I should have said Low Countries instead of France but I forgot the scenario after Norway is Low Countries. Appreciate all the help from fellow gamers trying to work this out for me.
