I am workin up a 600/650 point mid republican Rome army based off the starter army list and wondering about upgrading my commander to inspired. If I drop the allied foot, upgrade the Velites to "Protected" and upgrade the Commander to "inspired" I come in at 598.

So what does an Inspired Commander get me versus an allied foot BG? What are the pro's and con's?

IC are very useful to dictate terrain, help in manoeuver and pass Cohesion Tests (CT) especially from shooting.

You are using a Mid Republic Roman. So

You do not have the horse to dictate terrain, at best you will get a plus +3 and it would probably be better for you to move first so you don't want initiative.
Most of your BG should be superior so will pass complex move tests (CMT) and CT normally without help.

IMO an IC does not give MRR a lot. Take more troops.

More accurately. Take more legions.

Not that you have a lot of options unless you go with allies. More possibilities for getting into trouble with LRR.
