Eben-Emael - Field Marshal - previous DV

Starting with 2180 prestige, down to 1600 after elite replacements. Got a SE Grenadier unit (which will be disbanded at the end of the scenario). After buying 1 PzIVD and upgrading my 3 10,5cm to 15cm in addition to my 1 Bf110C to D I am down to 1070 prestige.

I will try a frontal assault with heavy artillery support (3 15cm, 3 Sturmpanzer I) on the fortificattions in the north and south this time.

The last northern fortification was destroyed on turn 8, but killing the last infantry guarding the southern river took me till turn 13.

Pretty much with the last shot I fired I managed a DV at turn 15/15. So even at FM level with a stupid tactic it is possible top achieve DV on this one. Playing smasrt and attacking the northern fortifications from the rear would have most likely stripped 2-3 turns from this one.

I have hoped that using bad tactics would give me a MV, so I think having gotten a DV despite it makes this scenario a bit too easy for my taste. Maybe even a single additional fighter would be good.

2040 prestige in the end, but there will be some repairs.

Since it came up in another thread: Yes, prestige looks a bit high - I started with 1070 prestige and despite using the "bang your head against will wall till it breaks" tactics (and the losses that come with it) I started the next scenario with 3040 prestige, 2220 after elite replacements. A net gain of about 1150 prestige looks a bit high to me for such a fairly poor preformance.

On the other hand this is the first scenario of the '40 campaign, so maybe that's a reason to lean towards the higher prestige rewards.

Scenario is great for colonel level. I upgraded 2 pz38(t) to PzIVD, the one 10,5cm to 15cm artillery. I still cherish the polish artillery piece.
Same tactic as with first version, not to cross the southern bridge. Split battlegroup in two, a few belgian attemps to counter-attack and i captured the last VH at turn 11/15. The british bombers were greeted by my fighters and never managed to attack. I have 446PP left.

I deployed 2 pioneers at the ground deployement slots at Eben-Emael, and one paratrooper at the aerial deployement slot.

I diverted a few units to take the northern non objective cities on the east bank of the Meuse, and crossed with the bulk of my forcesat Eben Emael as advised in the scenario briefing (I didn't attempt to tackle the reinforced positions at the southern crossing and at Maastricht - good idea to have aux recon there :p ).

Everything went suprisingly easily for the first few turns, Eben Emael fell fast, many of the cities on the west side were undefended or lightly defended, with the only visible serious defenses by Liege and Maastricht, so I scattered my units to take the various objectives. Which was not a good idea, I was completely suprised by the Belgian counterattacks. As it was mostly infantries, I didn't lose any cores, but I had a few closes calls with unprotected artilleries and halftrack transports, that I had to replace with green recruits, and was bogged down for a bit, keeping the central objectives and maintaining the pressure on Maastricht and Liege. Still a clear DV in the end, however. First heroes started to "pop" on several of my units(got only a few of these on the Norway scenarios, played most of my camapgin in beta 1 however)

All in all, a very dynamic scenario, with a healthy balance. As usual, a high level of immersion, with a credible retranscription of the historic assault, within the boundaries of the PC engine.
