Modlin - Field Marshal - previous DV
Starting with 1290 prestige, down to 660 after elite replacements. Got a new elite Gebirgsjäger, lets hope this one lasts longer...

Bought myself another Pioniere and a He111 to deal with those fortifications, bringing my prestige down to 110. Will need some Brückenpioniere later on, so I will only deploy 16/17 units for now.
The first line of defenders in front of Modlin are very passive - especially the cav.
Overall the most simple mission yet. The fortifications do hurt, but since the rest of the map is fairly static there was no real feeling of danger here. DV at turn 13/17 with 980 prestige - but the repair bill will be fairly high.

Modlin - Colonel level.
The first part of the mission is rather easy - advancing to Modlin. The VH are easily taken, the others actually also. At the gates of Modlin the enemies dug in are easily subdued by artillery and stuka's and they sat still and awaited their faith (passive?). The only troublemakers are the fortresses and the armoured train. In the first version i also attacked from the east, but this time after scouting, i decided not to. It would probably have taken me more losses than gains. 13/17 turns it took me and 228 PP remain. No units lost.

I applaud Charon and NikkVD for their victories on this one because for me it proved to be an insurmountable challenge. In beta 1 I did find this one to be slightly on the easy side, but only slightly. My main complaint was actually just that the radar tower graphic for the second fort was confusing. This time around, hoo boy...
Playing on General level, the approach to Modlin was was enough. But for me, Modlin proved to be completely impregnable. The AI seemed to have enough prestige to rush in a steady supply of new units and it's fortresses allowed them to pick off my units with ease. I lost four units before I got frustrated and gave up. My plan will probably be to be just to settle for a marginal victory next time. I am glad that the radar tower graphic was fixed, but I felt like those forts needed to be toned down. They can just slaughter your units too easily.

Hmm, I tried this one again and got a decisive victory on the last turn. I played quite a bit more cautiously and sent a force around the long way to attack the easternmost fort. This seemed to work as I didn't lost a single unit. Still, these forts seem a bit strong for the 1939 campaign as they can really chew your units up.
