Did Heroes And Medals Get Changed For The DLC?

Rudankort wrote:Thanks for the topic. Awards and heroes are still new, so any feedback and suggestions how make them more useful, balanced and fun is welcome. Below I'll explain how they work, to make testing easier for all of you.

Awards

Awards are used to distinguish veteran units, event if they were given green replacements and lost all stars. Awards are tied to unit's kills (total enemy strength killed, i. e. inflicting 5 points of damage to enemy unit gives you 5 kills). As was in real life, many awards are "upgrades" of the previous grade of the same award, and replace it in the same award slot. There are 3 award slots, but germans use 2 atm.

Full list of awards:

Iron Cross 2nd Class (50 kills)
Iron Cross 1st Class (100 kills)
Knight's Cross (200 kills)
Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves (300 kills)
Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords (400 kills)
Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds (500 kills)
Knight's Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds (1000 kills)

Last award will probably be very rare, much like in real life.

Heroes

Heroes are similar to awards, but there are 2 important differences:
- They modify unit's stats, and so are more useful
- They appear more randomly, so you won't know in advance when exactly you will get the next hero.

First hero appears somewhere in the range of 50-100 kills, second - 100-200 kills, third - 200-500. So you can have maximum 3 heroes on a unit, but getting them can take longer than to get 3 heroes on 3 different units.

New hero gets a randomly assigned name and image. We'll try to add historical heroes in the next update. Each hero can give a certain bonus to each of the base 5 stats: attack, defense, initiative, movement and spotting. Special abilities do not exist. The reason is, special abilities are often useless or, on the contrary, unbalance the game, and we don't want any of this before release. However, in the future special abilities can well appear.
Did this get changed for the DLC? I got a late start on the beta due to having to move into a new place, and, maybe, I missed the "memo" on this one. I'm currently on Kampinoska Forest and my units are only now getting their first medals. However, the Iron Cross 2nd class wasn't awarded until 100 kills vs the 50 kills it was on the regular version of Panzer Corps. Also, I haven't received any heroes between the 50-100 kill range like before. Is there a new formula for medals and heroes? If so, is it possible to get an update on it (or point me to the thread that contains the info since I can't find it)? I can see the logic in it due to the possible length when linking all the DLC's together and the need to space medals/heroes over a greater length of time.

It may also be that I'm continuing a campaign from the earlier version and since updated to Version 2. I've noticed some weird sound errors since updating, too. Occasionally, my tank won't have sound with the muzzle flash animation when attacking. It also happens occasionally when attacking an AT and the enemy AT's attack animation won't have sound. I probably should just start a new campaign and see the new changes, anyways. Weird things sometimes happen when carrying over campaigns after updating to a new version.

Hero acquisition and medals have both drastically been slowed down to accommodate the much longer campaign.

By the time we're done, hopefully each campaign will be able to have it's own set of governing rules.
That is, management of Elite units, Heroes, Medals, and so on can be controlled and re-configured on a campaign by campaign basis.

That's what I was thinking:

Do you have a tentative schedule for medals and heroes for the DLC? For instance, when can we expect our first hero? Looks like between 100 and 200 kills? Sorry, I'm a little late to the beta because of moving and unpacking.

Also, do you plan on making the GC DLC's playable as stand alone campaigns? If so, you may want to give the player a choice once they start a DLC campaign between stand alone and linked (maybe a new "splash screen" giving the player a choice). If they choose "stand alone", then the XP cap should be removed and medals/heroes formula set at the standard rate. As a stand alone campaign, they aren't very long, so having a cap and slow medal/hero rate wouldn't be very fun. If they choose "linked", then the XP cap and the newer formula for medals/heroes will be in place. Not everyone will be buying all of the DLC's, so there should probably be an option to play each one as a stand alone campaign.
